Ghostpoet and Soap & Skin
6 October 2012
This Ether double bill features two of Europe's fastest rising producers.
Ghostpoet's 2011 Mercury-prize nominated record 'Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam' was released on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings label and drew praise from all corners of the music world. Amazon placed it at number 17 in its Best Albums of 2011 list.
Anja Plaschg, aka Soap&Skin, is a 22-year-old Austrian producer whose rhythmic, piano-led arrangements are influenced as much by 20th-century classical composers as by Bjork, Aphex Twin and Cat Power. This show marks her return to London following her sold out show at the Scala in April 2012.
Praise for Ghostpoet -'Melancholic hip hop jams... it's hip hop made for breaking down cultural barriers.' (Dazed & Confused)'Minimalist, woozy brit-hop. Sensational.' (The Sunday Times)'Welcome to the new dawn of the hip hop MC... Subtly explosive, with lusciously lethargic lyricism' (DJ Magazine)'Ghostpoet marries sharp social observations to eerie electro and jazz figures, like a cross between the Streets' Mike Skinner and the late Gil Scott-Heron' (The Daily Telegraph)
Praise for Soap&Skin -A solo artist of unfathomable brilliance' (Clash Music)'Once you've heard this disturbing, breathtaking, beautifully bleak album all others will seem frivolous and meaningless by comparison.' (The 405)
